Molds are toxic organisms that can do a lot of respiratory harm when present within our home. Removing them is the only way to make our home safe again. In the process, though, if we do not practice certain level of discretion when choosing mold removal products, we might end up harming our environment.
Traditional mold removal products have been found to contain certain chemicals that can harm the environment. Today, however, there are now eco-friendly alternative solutions to eliminating molds. What are eco-friendly mold removers? These are products that use non-toxic, non-synthetic materials. The ingredients used in these products pose no threat to the environment. With eco-friendly or green removal products, you can keep your home free of molds without harming the environment.
That these products are eco-friendly does not mean they are less potent. Green mold removal products have been formulated to kill molds and prevent them from coming back just like the traditional products. In fact, these products are even found to work more effectively than non-green ones.
Bleach, which is used in many households, is made of harsh chemicals. Inhaling these chemicals may damage the lungs in the long run. Bleach and other chemical-heavy mold cleaners can also reduce the quality of air you breathe in. The production of these kinds of products also adds to the industrial waste that pollutes our environment.
Green mold removal products, on the other hand, use organic materials that have been studied to harm nothing else but molds. Since they are made of organic materials, they do not harm the air or the environment.
Bleach solutions have been found to “eliminate” molds only temporarily. After a little while, molds return. Green removal products, on the other hand, have been found to remove molds completely and prevent them from coming back.
There are many eco-friendly mold removal products in the market. They can be a little bit more expensive than the traditional products. But what are a few extra bucks when you are keeping the environment safe for your family and for the next generation.
On the other hand, there are many ordinary house products that you can use. In other words, you don’t have to spend a lot to go eco-friendly when dealing with stubborn molds. Vinegar diluted with part water (half vinegar, half water), for instance, has been proven to work more effectively than bleach. To remove molds using diluted vinegar, simply spray on the mold growth. Let it sit for a while, then remove mold using a brush. You may be repulsed by the smell, but say you spray in the morning but by the time you get back from work in the evening, the smell will be gone.
Other effective eco-friendly mold removal solutions you can use at home are tea tree oil mixed with water, and baking soda. As with cleaning using traditional, chemical-based mold removers, you should practice certain precautions when cleaning using eco-friendly products. Don’t forget to wear gloves and safety mask when cleaning, and open the window to let ventilate the contaminated area. Molds don’t survive in well-ventilated places.
