Wind power, though largely regarded as a very important source of alternative energy, still remains shrouded by a lot of misconception and general ignorance. Wind power, as the name itself suggests, is derived from the wind. More specifically, it is derived from the natural wind flow that is caused by the differential heating of the earth’s surface by the sun.
Blowing wind (i.e. wind in motion) contains within it kinetic energy. Wind power essentially involves transforming this kinetic energy into various other forms of energy, mainly electricity and mechanical energy. Wind power, like most other sources of power used by mankind, has its share of advantages and disadvantages. Let’s take a closer look at them.

The move towards utilising more sustainable sources for energy means that engineering consultants have to provide information on groundbreaking technologies in the energy industry. The latest development in harnessing energy from sustainable sources comes from a wave power generator. It is claimed that the rubber ’snake’ could cut the cost of providing renewable energy to the UK in just a few years; we take a look at what might make engineering consultants recommend this new technology.

If you are considering buying a home with a septic system, you may have been advised to invest in a proper inspection of the septic tank. It is important to have the home’s septic tank inspected not only prior to purchasing the property, but also roughly every 1 to 3 years over the lifespan of the system. Since these systems allow scum and sludge to build up over time, it is important to check the levels in order to prevent clogged inlet or outlet baffles. Most systems require pumping every 3 to 5 years, depending on the size of the tank, household use and other factors. In order to understand how septic tanks are inspected, you must first have an idea of how these systems work.

Solar energy, as the name itself suggests, is sourced from that glowing ball of fire in the sky that we call the sun. What we call sunlight is actually beams of electromagnetic waves that are absorbed by the upper strata of the earth’s atmosphere. This is also known as solar radiation, carrying what is known as radiant power. Of the entire amount of solar energy reaching the earth`s surface, about two thirds get absorbed by the various water bodies, clouds and landmasses, while the rest is reflected back into space.
