Street flushing and sweeping operations in Ontario, particularly in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) are nuisances to some people. Mechanical sweepers take too much space on the streets and move slowly adding burden to the traffic. Street flushing and sweeping programs also demand too much from residents. For one, parked cars must be kept off residential streets on a scheduled flushing and sweeping operation.

Also, garbage containers and recycle boxes must be placed away from the street during collection days. In addition, motorists are handed parking tickets and fined because of parked cars on a street with pending flushing and sweeping operation. These people remain in the dark hence the misunderstanding and negative reactions. So, why are street flushing and sweeping done?

With so many systems to concern yourself with, it is hard to imagine how you can stay on top of it all.

Martial artists respect the efficient and effective, so I’m going to deliver my message like a well thrown punch to the nose: The martial arts world (”The Industry”) is thinking too small and it’s off course.

It’s time to slow down all the talk of sales and gross income and marketing in our industry. What we need to hear and heal this industry is smart talk from its leaders. Instead of sales chatter, let’s hear someone say, “We are being disrespectful to our planet, let’s do something about it.” Let’s hear them say, “We are massacring children, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and all in the name of fear and hate and borders and religion and misunderstanding and greed. We can -and will -as a community do something about it.”

Under Section 608 of the U.S. Clean Air Act written by the EPA a number of years ago, regulations are set forth regarding the handling, recovery and recycling of refrigerants during service, maintenance, repair, or disposal.

Refrigerant gases are a major contributor to global warming and the depletion of the ozone layer because they contain harmful chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs).

As stated in Section 608, it is illegal to intentionally vent refrigerants into the air during routine maintenance, servicing, repairing, or disposal of equipment. Although refrigerants discharged during normal operation is allowable, monitoring of such systems is required.
