Electric automobiles are not recent inventions. They have been around for a very long time. In fact, back in the early 1900s, more electric vehicles were being driven than gasoline-powered vehicles. During the early 1920s when vehicles were becoming very popular, gasoline was very expensive. It was also very difficult to start a gasoline engine because you had to turn a crank in front of the car many times in order to get the car started. Keys were not used to start cars like we have today. Gasoline vehicles at the time were very noisy and emitted a lot of smoke and pollution. The cars had no muffler or the muffler was not very effective. Thus, electric vehicles became very popular and the vehicle of choice. There were over 50,000 electric powered vehicles on the roads and streets of America at one time.
Archive for October 25th, 2008There’s never been a better time to convert to solar power. North Americans are only too aware of the ramifications of the continued use of non-renewable energy sources. Global warming and greenhouse gases are terms understood by even the youngest of citizens. The possible impact of ignoring the warnings could have devastating consequences for future generations. “Solar how to” is on the minds of many social and environmentally-conscious individuals. Environmental concerns extend beyond the front door. RV travelers have become increasingly aware of the benefits of converting to solar power. Many have become traveling ambassadors for the cause. They stand to set a new trend when it comes to relying less on hydro-electric energy and more upon natural sunlight when traveling. The National Hurricane Center issues a Hurricane Warning when a Tropical Storm or Hurricane is expected to strike your area within the next 24 hours. When a Hurricane Warning is posted there are several important steps to take immediately to ensure your safety and prevent damage to your property and/or your business. Foremost, tune in to your local television or radio station and stay informed regarding changing weather conditions. Monitor NOAA weather radio for the most recent hurricane reports.

Accelerated Global Warming And Atmospheric CO2 EmissionsPosted by JamesNash in EnvironmentUp to now it has been generally assumed that global warming will be a linear process. However evidence from the geological past linked with climate modelling that takes into account the global warming that is already locked into the system indicates that there may not be a linear response to rising CO2 levels. There is a danger that at some point we will cross a threshhold when global warming accelerates. By continuing to increase the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere we are getting closer to that point. |
