The big push in the flooring business today is how to address the growing issue of recycling. Consumers are becoming more and more conscious of how their buying choices affect the environment both inside and outside their homes.

When it comes to flooring, industry, government and concerned citizens have begun to work together on ways to reduce the potential negative environmental consequence that comes from disposing of used flooring materials.

The short answer to the question of whether you can recycle used vinyl flooring is yes. Vinyl flooring products are no exception to the recycling movement and like many types of plastic products, strategies and methods for safely disposing of and reusing these materials are growing, often into profitable businesses.

Responding to the problems associated with the disposal of used carpet, the carpet industry has teamed up with government agencies and other concerned groups to establish a program that encourages the recycling of used carpet materials.

This partnership has implemented a national agreement that sets goals for increasing the amount of carpet that is recycles. One result of this cooperative effort has been the creation of entire industry that is built around the collection and recycling of used carpet materials.

Carbon Emissions….what are they. There is much talk in the media about carbon emissions and how we should all reduce our carbon footprint but how many of us know what it actually means.

Carbon emissions are the result of burning carbon-based fuels (fossil fuels) such as coal, oil and natural gas and the carbon compounds released into the atmosphere. How this affects us apart from the obvious pollution question is that the high concentration in the atmosphere of changes in carbon dioxide results in the rising of the earth’s temperatures, causing the problems we are experiencing today…i.e. climate change, the melting of the ice cap, rising sea levels etc

Gasoline is a great fuel for cars and other motor vehicles. It delivers lots of energy in a small volume, is (or was) readily available, and because it is a liquid, it is pretty easy to work with. But gasoline comes with some big drawbacks too. It is a limited resource. Burning it causes pollution. And it is starting to cost an awful lot of money.

What the world needs is some other liquid fuel that contains lots of energy, is readily available, and is easy to work with. Water would be ideal for this, except for the minor fact that you can’t burn it as fuel. Surely a water powered engine is impossible. Or is it?
