The SS Richard Montgomery was an American Liberty ship, it sailed for only one year and a month after completion yet is still appearing on shipping news, radars and is kept under close scrutiny today. So what makes this cargo ship so special? The Montgomery, though built to serve and provide vital supplied, is now a danger to shipping after breaking its back and sinking in the Thames Estuary while fully laden with munitions and explosives.

Fuel prices have dramatically risen over recent years and with price increases set to continue many people are seriously considering a hybrid car. According to the Associated Press, sales of green vehicles rose by 38 per cent last year. Demand has increased due to a combination of rising fuel prices and motorists becoming more aware of the damage to the environment caused by conventional cars.

Hybrid cars have two engines, an electric motor and a gas powered engine. When your car is idling, that is,not in motion but with the engine is running, the gasoline engine will automatically switch off and allow the engine to run on electricity.

The basis of this greatly over-used maxim really treats that trees are cut down to make paper, which is correct, for a given value of both “trees” and “correct.”

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has stated that the average household in the UK is wasting around 8 pound sterling per week on unnecessary food bills. Brown’s suggestion that the British public should think more carefully about their food shopping in an attempt to reduce the horrifying effect of the credit crunch seems laughable. With the cost of oil soaring and the cost of living up by a reported 9.5 per cent, it seems like a drop in the ocean to have two sausages for dinner instead of three.

This week we have been discussing the Green Revolution or earth-friendly life style, not in purely academic sense though. Conservation has always been viewed as a pre-occupation of the eccentrics. But now we all can’t ignore this phenomenon any more. After all, politicians have now brought the whole issue into the mainstream as they jostle for positions.
