It is of course is the debate of genetically modified crops against natural fresh foods. The king in waiting recently made comments to a journalist that were recorded in which he delivered a scathing attack on GM foods, saying that it could be one of the greatest natural catastrophes of all time. Global warming and climate change is big in the news at present, and calls for a more sustainable way of living are being directed at consumers at every level. It has become common practice to recycle household waste, sorting through cans, bottles, plastic and paper. Not as common, but eagerly encouraged is collecting organic waste to feed the compost bin, which in turn feeds the vegetables growing in the garden to complete a small sustainable cycle. As from the first of July 2007 England went smoke free including pubs, clubs, bars, restaurants and cafes. Meaning that any customers wishing to have a smoke will have to do so outside. Some venues will have outdoor areas where smoking is allowed but some will have to apply for planning permission to have outdoor smoking shelters erected, if you are considering providing a smoking shelter for your customers it is advised that you contact your local council before taking any action to ensure you meet with any health and safety regulations or planning legislation. Of all the plants used in hedges the most quintessentially British is yew hedging. It is the oldest living tree in the British Isles with yews in England and Wales that is over 3,000 years of age - the Fortingall yew in Perthshire is between 4-5,000 years old. The yew is inextricably linked with death and rebirth - every old churchyard has a yew tree to ward off evil spirits. |
